This issue of prostitution and exploitation of Nigerian girls and women is not unique to Italy and Belgium. It has been a pandemic in Nigeria for years and it's getting increasingly worse and the country as a whole should be ashamed of the nonchalant and the lip service response from the government and the stigma that it has generated domestically and internationally. The real problem is the continued economic divide, poor education and lack of employment that force disadvantaged individuals and in this case young girls and women to succumb to prostitution to make ends meet.In the case of Italy and Belgium cited in this story, I believe that the Nigerian government agency that handles human trafficking should report the case to these foreign embassies in Nigeria who continue to issue visa to women and young girls knowing fully well that they have no qualification or intention to go to school or become gainfully employed when they get to Italy and Belgium. In closing,in spite of reported steady economic growth in Nigeria, the level of poverty, inequality and social injustice is unconscionable.
