I like these types of events because they honour and raise the profile of Nigerians. Welcoming the Nigerian Olympic team this way is a good thing for their moral.
Obinna Metu; 100m, 200m athlete representing Nigeria in 2012 London Olympics.
I am the fastest man in Nigeria. I feel good and it’s a dream come true to be in London. This is my 2nd Olympic tournament along with 2008. I am not afraid of Usain Bolt the current champion. I was in Jamaica in 2010 to train with the best coach in the world and I trained with him, usain bolt. I believe he’s one of the best and I want to beat him. We were in the same heat in 2008 and I let him get away, I won’t let him this time. Yes Obinna, for all of Nigeria’s sake, we like your promise, we are right behind you.
ENGR SANI NDANUSA; HEAD OF OLYMPIC COMMITTEE; WE CAME TO COMPETE, NOT PARTICIPATE.
The team has been looked after properly and are ready. We came here with 50 athletes because they are the best out of 150million people. London olympics is not a place for testing anybody. We will be within Gold Medal reach in London 2012 and are already planning for Beijing 2016.People think Nigeria is down since the 80s due to our football dominance but we are doing well in other sports like basketball, check it. Nigerians are rowing and we are expanding our sports curriculum back in schools. We have minimised excesses by having a small number of delegates who are all staying in modest hotels. The Nigerian government has not promised anybody anything for winning but the private sectors have. Some have said N2.5m for Gold, N1.5m for silver and so on. The government are giving companies tax breaks so they can support as such. The Jumbo package will come from the government. We are very happy about the support of this event and the Nigerian Athletes are enjoying home advantage, hopefully that will also transpire when the games begin.
WALE OJO; ACTOR NEW NIGERIAN CINEMA;
Young Nigerian athletes by being millions in England make up the backbone of British sport. We should all be proud of Nigeria and show our support for the National team.
INNOCENT EGBONIKE; Head Coach, Nigerian Olympic team 2012. Picture
This Event shows us we have homeboys and homegirls in London. We will not dissapoint. TheNigerian athletes have done well in the African championships and Olympic trials in 2012. Moral is high and we will shine. All we can ask for 1st are your prayers and moral support.Watch the space

I’ve been in 3 olympics and this is the 1st time the team has been welcomed like this, Its nice to see Nigerians appreciating Nigerians. My advice to the athletes is keep your head up, do your best and make Nigeria proud.
