Nigeria Olympic team coach Austin Eguavoen has resigned from his job following the failure of the squad to make it past the group stages of the Caf Under-23 Championship in Morocco. The team lost two games and won their last against Algeria, but it was not enough to keep them in the race for a London 2012 Olympics ticket.
In a letter to the Nigeria Football Federation, former international defender Eguavoen said it was only honourable for him to resign after failing the nation and the terms of his contract.
“I'm so sorry I couldn't make it. I think it's just honourable for me to resign after failing to meet the set targets,” he wrote.
It capped a disastrous year for Nigerian football as they failed to qualify for January’s Africa Cup of Nations, the male and female Olympics football tournament as well as the All Africa Games that was held in September.
RED FACTOR SAYS; few things these days make me proud to be a Bini man. How many people are humble and decent enough not to hang to their positions and continue stealing even when they are failing. Edo state STAND UP. This is exactly how it should be. Edo leaders are you watching.
