Adams Oshiomhole, Governor, Edo State |
You did not sign your name on this follow-up to my comment, however, I hope I have addressed you properly. The constitution of Nigeria provides for the publication of public accounts, as an Edo citizen, i am entitled to request that a public servant renders account of their stewardship. As a British trained Certified Public Accountant, I find it unacceptable that the Governor is not presenting accounts to the people he serves yet, every one is singing Oshiomhole's praise because of light fittings in ring road. My last visit to Benin in July this year was an eye opener and caused me to be
concerned and raise serious questions.
It rained and GRA was heavily flooded everywhere I went, Airport Road from Ihama junction downward is uncompleted. That means that Oshomhole took 3 years to grade airport rd from ring road to Ihama junction. The cost we are hearing is soaring into tens of billions more than the Feds pay per mile for the same quality of road.
I grew up in Aikhionbare area of GRA and once shared the same street with ex-Gov Oyegun on Isibor Way, off Aikhionbare; so I know the area well. The Airport road area of Benin and GRA was always motorable. If everywhere is still flooding, I am not even discussing Upper Sakponba here, and the airport road project is not progressing, no light anywhere else once you leave Ring road, no clean water etc. The simple question is what is Oshiomhole doing with the billions!! My interest remains the development of our great state without any tribal sentiment.
Let him convince me that he is honest and genuine and I will personally campaign for him come 2012. The cosmetic development projects does not fool me at all.
Prince Egbe.

Those who only sing praises of Gov. Oshiomhole now has the opportunity to convince the rest of us of his perfect intentions. Show us the account, a simple 'balance sheet' of the state. It will promote his bid for a second term if people are convinced that the income and expenditure account for Edo state is impeccable.
Hmmm, we are waiting oh.

Accountability Outrage! EDO QUERIES OSHIOMHOLE – HOW FAR WITH N51 BILLION EDO FUNDS? (Excerpt)
More questions have continued to emerge from relevant quarters and influential personalities in Edo State as to what the present government, led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has done with the over N51 billion that has been paid to the coffers of the state from the Federation Account from January to July 2011.
The state governor has been challenged to display his self-professed allegiance to strict accountability in public service, by stating specifically how the funds have been deployed, so that Edo people would know and understand how their allotted resources, from the Federation account and the amounts generated from the tyrannical tax regime, forced upon the people through the State Board of Internal Revenue, have been put to use to alleviate their suffering and better their welfare. If the state government has gotten over N31 billion in six months, and got N4.8 billion in the month of July, that makes it N35 billion, and the local government councils, which are at his beck and call, got almost N16 billion within the period, the governor should be explaining to the people of Edo State what he has done with about N51 billion, because he is also in charge of council funds…
We are not even talking about the IGR, which the governor says has risen from about N200-N300 million to N1.5-N2.5 billion monthly. The state governor still owes it to the people the obligation of knowing what the IGR added to the federal allocation to the state is.
We are aware that since January, there is no local government council in the state that has received less than N100 million every month. The minimum has been N111 and N112 million. Our three metropolitan Local Government Council, Oredo, Ikpoba-Okha and Egor, none has received anything less than N160-N170 million every month. When you speak to these Transition Committee Chairmen, they complain that they got only N30-N40 million monthly. And when you put all of this together in the eighteen local government areas in the state, then we are talking about another set of billions withheld by the state government which totals to almost N7 billion monthly… Ken Edokpayi (The Navigator)
RED FACTOR SAYS; I agree with asking questions and seeking what is best for Edo state. We are in democracy and we can and must speak our minds. Someone is accountable and they must not try to stop people from just that.
