The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, on Thursday, alleged that the state government has concluded plans to spend N3 billion to celebrate the three years in office of Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
In a statement signed by its Director of Publicity, Mr Okharedia Ihimekpen, and made available to journalists in Benin City, the PDP described the action as illegal, since it was not appropriated for in the 2011 budget, saying that the use of such amount to prosecute a “mundane and self serving interest” would further deplete the state’s treasury.
The PDP said amid the state government’s declaration that there was no iota of truth in its claim, “The venture is criminal and a subtle way to bleed the state further, when only two weeks ago the apex law making body, the senate, declared Edo State as financially insolvent and bankrupt due to financial recklessness of the state governor.
“Such money could better be used in other sectors such as education, health and security which will be beneficial to the people of the state, we see this move as a mark of the governor’s insensitivity to the plight of the over taxed Edo people, especially, workers and teachers who are groaning over non implementation of their National minimum wage.
But in a swift reaction, the Edo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Louis Odion said, “Ordinarily, the good and appreciative people of Edo State both at home and in the Diaspora would spare no costs in celebrating their liberation from the cesspool of decay and dilapidation the PDP had plunged their state until Comrade Adams Oshiomhole came.
“However, we remain focused and prudent in managing our scarce resources for the benefit of the greater majority of our people. Our policy has always been low-profile. We are not about to change that. There is no iota of truth in the PDP claim. It is yet another transparent lie from the pit of hell that is PDP.”
Red Factor Says; We don't believe this. Oshiomole is too selfish to waste 3billion on himself. He will win with 3million. He's the people's choice by a mile.
